Scientists, including some from the military, may have finally uncovered the reason and cause of “colony collapse disorder”. This is the case where honeybee colonies have been found abandoned or wiped out for no apparent reason. The agricultural impact that results from this is potentially staggering and crops in some areas have already been significantly impacted.
In a recent report out of the University of Montana, the newest theory is that the cause is a lethal combination of a virus and a fungus affecting the bee population.
